The 10,000-square-foot ‘Ekahi Health Center at Waterfront Plaza opened in Nov. 2015 to serve as an incubator to test and prove new healthcare delivery and payment models. Since its grand opening, the Center has been featuring the ‘Ekahi Ornish Lifest

yle Medicine program, which is a comprehensive lifestyle modification program that can prevent, reduce, or even reverse the effects of heart disease. This 72-hour, 9-week program helps participants live healthier lives by addressing four key elements, including proper nutrition, exercise, group support and stress management. To date, nearly 1,000 Hawai‘i residents have graduated from the ‘Ekahi Ornish program.

“Thirty-five percent of our Ornish program participants are living with diabetes,” said Dr. Kevin Lum, medical director of the ‘Ekahi Health Center. “‘Ekahi Wellness is an opportunity for high risk patients to get the quality diabetes focused care that is not only affordable, but that treats the root cause of the problem. When these patients feel that they are ready to take that next step in making transformative lifestyle changes, they can extend their care with us by joining our ‘Ekahi Ornish program for a healthier way of living.”
